- The Lotto Texas jackpot from June 2021, valued at $18.75 million, was unclaimed until November. A representative for Onomea LLC, came forward to claim the jackpot just before it was due to expire on November 29. The winning ticket was sold at Xpress Food & Fuel at 800 E. Parker Road in Plano.
- The $7.75 million Lotto Texas jackpot that was set to expire on July 8, 2021 was eventually claimed. The claimant came forward just before the expiration date and decided to remain anonymous after opting for the cash option. The amount they received was $6,197,606.84 before taxes.
- Another prize that was claimed in the nick of time, a month before expiration, is a $5 million ticket sold at QuikTrip #963, at 1750 Wilmeth Road in McKinney. The winner, a local resident, has opted to stay anonymous.
Unfortunately, some top prize winners never come forward to claim their winnings. For example, a $1 million Powerball prize from January 13, 2021 was never claimed. The winning ticket was sold at ALTX Management at 3630 Interstate 35 S. in Wacowas.
Gary Grief, the executive director of the Texas Lottery, advises players to "take another look at their tickets, check the numbers again and if your numbers match, sign the back of the ticket and contact us to request an appointment to claim your prize."
TX Lottery draw game winners have 180 days from the draw date to come forward and cash their ticket. Some military personnel may be eligible for an extended claim period. Unclaimed winnings are returned to the state to fund programs authorized by the Texas Legislature.
Any prize money that remains unclaimed after the 180 day period is allocated to causes and programs within Texas, such as the Fund for Veteran's Assistance.
